Materials

  • Yarn: Worsted Weight / 4 / Yarn, Lion Brand Re-Up (397g / 14oz / 651 yards / 595 m / 70% Recycled Cotton / 30% Recycled Polyester) was used for the samples shown in the photos.
  • Yardage and Colors: Yardage will vary depending on the size of your dishcloth. For my version, I used:
    • Midnight Navy #128-110AV
    • Full Moon #128-098Z
    • MC: 55 yards per dishcloth
    • CC: 10 yards per dishcloth
  • Crochet Hooks: I/9/5.50mm; H/8/5.00mm; or size needed to obtain gauge (My favorite crochet hooks are the Clover Amour Crochet Hooks, I’ve never had an ache in my hand since switching).
  • Measuring Tape
  • Scissors
  • Yarn Needle

Special Stitches

  • Double Stitch: Begin by inserting your hook into the same stitch as the previously worked stitch ended in, yo, pull up a loop, insert your hook into the next stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through all 3 loops on your hook. *See the photo tutorial below.

  • Turning chains are not included in stitch count unless noted otherwise.
  • Yarn Notes: Lion Brand Re-Up in Midnight Navy and Full Moon (397g / 14oz / 651 yards / 595 m / 70% Recycled Cotton / 30% Recycled Polyester) was used for the samples shown in the photos. Another comparable worsted weight yarn may be substituted.

  • Custom Sizing: It is super simple to customize the size of your dishcloth because the stitch is a multiple of 1.
    • To adjust the width of your dishcloth, simply increase or decrease your foundation chain in multiples of 1.
    • To adjust the height of your dishcloth, simply work more or fewer repeats of row 8.

Easy Crochet Dishcloth – Free Crochet Pattern

Dishcloth Instructions

Color Changes: Scroll down past the stitch tutorial to find photos showing how I worked my color changes.

Set-Up: With MC yarn & a 5.50mm crochet hook, ch 25.

Row 1 (RS): Switch to a 5.00mm crochet hook, working into the back hump of the foundation ch, sc into the 2nd ch from your hook and in each ch across. Turn. (24 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in the first st, then work 23 double sts. Turn. (24 sts) Switch to CC yarn. Fasten off MC yarn.

Row 3: With CC yarn, ch 1, sc in the first st, then work 23 double sts. Turn. (24 sts) Switch to MC yarn. Fasten off CC yarn.

Rows 4 – 7: Rep Rows 2 – 3.

Rows 8 – 22: With MC yarn, ch 1, sc in the first st, then work 23 double sts. Turn. (24 sts)

Row 23: Ch 1, sc in each st across. (24 sts)

Fasten off. Weave in ends. Dishcloth should measure approximately 7-1/4″ W x 6-1/2″ H.

How I Changed Colors with Rows of Crochet Double Stitches

I worked color changes at the end of the row before turning to complete a row in a new color.

Complete a row of stitches in one color and then before you turn, yarn over with the new color (navy) and pull up a loop. Tighten the loop of the old color (cream). Then turn to begin the next row.
