Border

Ch 1, sc evenly around, working (sc, ch 1, sc) in each corner, join to first sc with slip st. Fasten off.

The sc border makes it easier to slip stitch the tree together.

Finishing

Turn the square so that one corner is on top (this will be the very top of the tree).

Join yarn in corner at top of tree and slip stitch the edges together.

Fold up the bottom corner until it meets where the edges were slip stitched together. Slip stitch across to close.

Trunk

Join brown yarn about 1/3 of the way across bottom. Ch 1, hdc 5 across bottom of tree, turn tree to back and hdc 5. Join to first hdc with sl st and sl st first 5 hdc to second 5 hdc.

Weave in ends.
